Kylie Jenner Fires Back To Critics Of Her ‘Self-Made Billionaire’ Title

After facing backlash for being named the youngest “self-made” billionaire, Kylie Jenner is doubling down.

Fans roasted Jenner, 21, on Twitter earlier this month when Forbes described her wealth, reportedly valued at over $900 million thanks to her makeup brand, as “self-made.” Jenner is the youngest member of the Kardashian-Jenner clan and had a sizable running start, many argued.

“There’s really no other word to use other than ‘self-made,’ because that is the truth,” Jenner recently told Interview. “That is the category that I fall under.”

She acknowledged that she had a “huge platform and lots of fans” prior to starting her company, Kylie Cosmetics, in 2015. But Jenner also claims her parents, Kris and Caitlyn Jenner, did not give her any money after she turned 16.

“I used 100 percent of my own money to start the company, not a dime in my bank account is inherited … and I am very proud of that,” she said.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg previously held Forbes’ title for youngest self-made billionaire. The outlet credits Jenner’s success in part to its simplicity: Kylie Cosmetics employs just seven full-time and five part-time workers. And @kyliejenner’s 128 million-plus Instagram followers make marketing a breeze.

“I never thought that this could happen. I believed in Kylie Cosmetics but I didn’t even know what I was getting myself into,” Jenner added. “It feels amazing, it’s wild, and being the youngest ever to do it is a blessing. I now want to focus on giving back to people and doing things that I’m passionate about.”
